FACILITY

As per the Law No 5996 on Veterinary Services, Plant Health, Food and Feed, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock is authorized to register not only food production facilities, but also those engaged in the storage and mass consumption of food. The regulation on Registration and Approval of Food Establishments has determined which food establishments are subject to registration and approval. In Turkey, there are 631,473 food establishments as of December 31, 2016, out of which, 619,384 are registered, and 12,089 approved. Establishments producing food of animal origin are included in the scope of approval, and figures of establishments with approval/conditional approval are listed below.

In addition to establishments producing food of animal origin, other food production, food sale and mass consumption facilities are also included in the scope of registration. The registration also includes enterprises that produce equipment and materials that come into contact with food products. The number of registered food establishments is given below.

As can be seen from the figures, the Turkish food industry has completed its organization. Enterprises processing food of animal origin are required to get official approval before commencing operations, while others need only to notify the state upon establishment.
