Founded in 1958, Istanbul Fishery and Animal Products Exporters’ Association operates under the General Secretariat of Istanbul Exporters’ Association. Supported by our members, we work with determination for the development of the sector, focusing on providing solutions to the problems facing the sector and increasing exports.
Thanks to our active and consistent efforts towards the growth of the sector, our exports went up from $1,812 billion in 2015 to $1,891 billion in 2016 with a 4.3 percent increase. Today, proudly export to over 130 countries.
The association continues to work diligently for development of Turkey and its sector. In cooperation with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, we have initiated regionalization studies in an effort to prevent cases of bird flu, which is a significant obstacle for the poultry industry, from hampering the country’s exports. We maintain an active presence at ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas) meetings to increase our quota in the exports of tuna, an important fishery species. In collaboration with the Ministry, we have succeeded in closing the Turkish sea bream and sea bass subsidy case, which was brought forward by the EU, without the implementation of any duties. Meanwhile, we are continuing to work with relevant ministries as we prepare our defense for the revisited trout case, similarly launched by the EU.
With our experienced team, we have been successfully organizing national participation in leading global trade expositions in the fishery sector: Seafood Expo North America in Boston, US, and the Brussels Seafood. We also take accomplished an important achievement by launching the Project on Developing International Competitiveness in Dairy Products sector.
Aiming to increase exports by an average of 13% per annum in order to reach the export target of $5 billion for the year 2023, we will continue to work on increasing value added and branded exports in our sector, with more than 300 member companies that are active exporters as well as leaders of their respective sectors.
